Equipment List

Each person should bring the following items:

𝥷  SACK LUNCH for Tuesday.

𝥷  Plastic trash bag 

The following items should be in the plastic bag:

𝥷  1 sleeping bag

𝥷  1 thin sleeping pad (Optional, 1 inch thick)

𝥷  1 jacket (for cool eves./morns.)

𝥷  1 small pillow (Optional, inflatable backpacking ones are light)
These items must all fit inside the plastic bag

𝥷  Tent (Optional; only one person per tent)

𝥷  Bucket – (Also serves as a camp chair)

1 sturdy 5-gallon bucket with lid. Available at Home Depot, $4.98 for the bucket and $2.28 for the lid. (You may also find them at Lowe's or Winco.) Write your name in permanent marker on both bucket and lid. This bucket will travel with you on your handcart. All of the following items must be packed (and fit) in the bucket, with the exception of the clothes (and shoes) you are wearing:


𝥷  1 waterproof poncho

𝥷  1 sweatshirt or fleece

𝥷  1 pair “broken in” hiking boots (preferred) or shoes with good ankle support.  (No flip flops or    open toes.)

𝥷  1 pair of shoes that can get wet during the river crossings.

𝥷  4-5 extra pair of socks (Wool or synthetic socks are critical to have in order to avoid blisters.    Don’t bring all-cotton or cotton-blend socks, they don't insulate when wet and can cause blisters.    Consider wearing 2 sets when hiking – wool outer, thin nylon inner.)

𝥷  3-4 extra underwear

𝥷  1 pair work gloves (Canvas or leather)

𝥷  Small soap

𝥷  Deodorant

𝥷  Hand towel

𝥷  Wet wipes

𝥷  1 comb or brush

𝥷  Toothbrush and toothpaste

𝥷  Lip balm/ChapStick with sunscreen

𝥷  Sunscreen (SPF 30 or greater, enough for 4 days)

𝥷  6 or more Band-Aids

𝥷  1 package of moleskin

𝥷  Insect Repellent (Skin applied & at least 40% DEET)

𝥷  Medications (Prescribed only, 4 days supply, to be given to Trek medical staff who will dispense them)

𝥷  Water bottle and/or hydration pack

𝥷  Small flashlight with new batteries

𝥷  Pocket Knife / Multitool (optional)

𝥷  Scriptures

𝥷  Pen and pencil (journals will be provided)

𝥷  Sunglasses (Optional)

𝥷  Small disposable camera (Optional)

Please do not bring anything that is not on this list, i.e., cell phones, electronic games, electronic music players, jewelry, makeup, etc.

Young Men Should Also Bring (two sets of clothing):

𝥷  2 pair of long pants - No denim jeans. Pants should be something other than jeans, with enough fabric to avoid tearing.  Cargo pants or cotton "Docker" style pants work well

𝥷  2 long-sleeve shirts - Shirts need to fit comfortably and allow for active movement.  Please wear pioneer style shirts (button down preferred)

𝥷  1 wide brimmed hat - The hat should have a tie or string to hold it in place when the wind blows. The hat brim should shade the neck, ears and face. No baseball caps.

𝥷  Sleeping clothes - Shorts or sweats (nights could be chilly)

𝥷  Suspenders (Optional)

𝥷  Vest (Optional)

Young Women Should Also Bring (two sets of clothing):

𝥷  2 long skirts and shirts or 2 long dresses. The skirts should be full enough to easily allow for active movements, including a long stride. Skirts should not be floor length. Just above the ankles, or even a few inches shorter, is a good length. You should be able to walk up stairs in your skirt without having to lift it with your hands to avoid stepping on it. 

𝥷  1 bonnet or straw hat. A  hat should have a tie or string to hold it in place when the wind blows. The hat brim should shade the neck, ears and face. No baseball caps.

𝥷  Bloomers or biking shorts (to prevent chafing)

𝥷  Feminine hygiene items

𝥷  Apron (Optional)

𝥷  Sleeping clothes - Shorts or sweats (nights could be chilly)
